I started to research Dr. West and more of his work and what he stood for, I was listening to some of his speeches, and his thoughts on African
Americans in our society. As I continued to research Dr. Cornel West and listened to him I found out that he was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated Organization. So i researched this organization as well. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and I Shared the

I want to be a member of the Matoaca National Junior Honor Society because I believe it will be able to help motivate me. Although I find that I am NJHS material, I think that this will be able to help me know that I am working for something, and thereby make it more urgent to do good. For example, my time in Scouts has shown me the importance of setting goals. When I discovered that new requirements would be forced on you if you didn’t complete them by the end of the year, I began buckling down on my and others requirements (as assistant patrol leader, I am supposed to help my patrol members.) Whereas my campfire plans were extremely rushed, simply because I didn’t find that they would be needed to be done.…

Dr. Patterson has been a role model for me because he did what others didn’t think was possible: to acquire an education. As a hopeful veterinarian, and someone who would love to transfer and attend Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, I am optimistic on my chances in reaching my goals and having my own clinical practice, whether it is for small animals or equine. Dr. Patterson had set goals, just like I have, and he did not allow anyone to hold him back from achieving them. He contributed to breaking the barriers that African Americans had in entering the veterinary program, he founded the commercial dietetics program, led the engineering program, and most importantly, began training African American youth to fly military airplanes. He also founded the United Negro College Fund, which was the first fundraising to aid in American Higher Education.…

Being apart of the National Honor Society would be a great honor for me. Entering high school as a clueless freshman, I had no idea what to expect. The only thing I knew is that being inducted into NHS was a great honor that I would eventually want to achieve. Through these first two years of highschool I have developed many great qualities including the four needed to be chosen; scholarship, leadership, service, and character. In high school I always wanted to play sports and stand out as an athlete in front of the crowd but I soon realized my freshman year that having many academic accomplishments were a great thing to achieve.…
