The Florida Theta chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta, located at Stetson University in has been given the opportunity to provide acts of community service and voluntary assistance relating to the medical career field at the Good Samaritan Clinic of Deland, FL. The Clinic offers free medical and dental care to uninsured residents of West Volusia county, and functions solely on the volunteering of professional medical, pharmaceutical, and dental care providers, along with community members, and Stetson students. The clinic also offers both psychological and diet counseling regarding meal planning by a volunteer psychiatrist and dietician, as well as an on-site pharmacy run by a volunteer pharmacist and aided by pharmaceutical donations. All services are free of charge, and continue to flourish through donations and grants.
AED student members volunteering at the clinic are able to experience a wide breadth of roles, all of which are essential to the clinic Operation. Due to the expansion in Volunteering by AED, students have been able to work in partnerships between Good Samaritan Clinic and other community organizations such as Headstart, expanding awareness of the clinic’s presence in neighboring counties and towns to prospective volunteers and patients. In essence, volunteering at the clinic has culminated into a unique hands-on approach that has allowed Stetson student members of AED to truly become involved in the community in which they spend their college careers, making and impact that affects their own future, as well as that of their
