Alpha Chi Nu Reflection

Improved Essays
During my sophomore year at Southern Maine community College, I was invited to the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society, and was elected as the vice president of service for our chapter, Alpha Chi Nu. Every year we pursue a certain academic area that pertains to relevant issues. During the semester, we focused on a political and scientific based issue, fossil fuels and it’s heavy influence on the college system. With little experience in politics and business, my influence and aide in the team had come from my strong scientific background in comparison with my teammates. Having little knowledge in politics, my political science and business owner colleagues and myself …show more content…
We then discussed with many large investment firms about building a green portfolio, and I had become the advocate for the scientific aspect, when discussing the impact of damage to the environment from carbon emissions. We had drawn up a green portfolio, met with the college president and the president of finance for the Maine Community College System, and even got on to the schedule for discussion on the Maine Community College Systems Financial board of directors, annual meeting. I have worked with many teams prior to Alpha Chi Nu, but this team was one of the most talented one of all, and I had the opportunity to learn a plethora of skills and took many leadership and teamwork courses, which undoubtedly made me into a far better team player and

Foua Yang, Lia’s mother is an intricate character formed by the trials she has faced in her life and her rich culture. All of this attributed to the way she cares deeply for Lia and remains faithful to her Hmong culture. Our personalities are similar in many ways, so if I were to be the social worker of this case I feel as though I could relate and gain trust from Foua in order to better care for Lia and respect the Hmong culture in the process. Lia’s mom, Foua and I have a lot in common as far as what we are passionate about, but are very different in life experience.…

    Sankkofa Reflection

Throughout the movie Sankofa it becomes very evident very quickly how prejudice and biased the whites are, even before you witness the whole slavery aspect of the film. Sankofa shows a brutal truth about The Caribbean’s past that many people, especially Caucasians, don’t like to mention or think about. Through my analysis I will look further into how the film and readings from the class coordinate with one another, as well as the whole process of Creolization for the Africans and the Americans. Sankofa shows the Creolization of Africans to the American culture and how they slowly try and adapt to the language, as well as the new culture they have been introduced to. It also shows their adaptation to being slaves rather than indigenous…

Curanderismo has been a presence in my life since I was very young. Growing up in a small community in Northern New Mexico ensured that I was exposed to traditional medicine and alternative forms of spirituality. This class was not my first exposure to curanderismo, though many of the readings and videos helped clarify and explain many of the elements of curanderismo that had been present in my life, but had not been explained. Curanderismo is just as much of a form of cultural expression as it is a form of traditional healing. Personally, curanderismo is a link to my cultural and family history, helping to continue traditions that my family has had for generations.…

The course AFAS 160 D1 is my first online class, and until now I still felt lucky to choose this class as one of my general education classes, because it gave me a great opportunity and an eye-opening experience about learning the African American Culture which I have never learned before and also gave me a chance to learn online. Describing this course to someone else, I would say this class is interesting and if you want to learn this class well, you need to prepare the Voice Thread and read the book carefully. To be honest, making videos on Voice Thread gave me a unique experience. I still remembered the first time I made a video on Voice Thread how nervous I was, I was afraid to have different ideas with other students and worried if they disagreed with me what should I do?…
