Alopecia is a disorder where hair loss occurs. There are lots of different alopecia disorders, but the main thing that they all share is the loss of hair. This happens to people that have Alopecia because their immune system starts to attack their hair follicles. The different types of Alopecia include Alopecia Areata, Alopecia Totalis and Alopecia Universalis. Each of these affect hair loss in different ways. Most people with any type of alopecia are about twenty years of age or older. But in some cases it has also affected children and teens.
Alopecia is caused by an autoimmune disorder. If a family member has had this disorder you will have a higher than normal chance to have alopecia.
