Alonzo King Dance Analysis Essay

Alonzo King's ballet,”Writing Ground”is a very free and and interpretive dance. The background is very plain and the dancing it very is precise. I liked the piece because it can be expressed differently and it isn’t a dance that's very predictable or boring. The piece varied between techniques. There was ballet, jazz, modern and even some hip hop. The music was another language and it really contrasted with the movement, bt it still looked good. The performance was intricate, but there weren’t repetition or similarities. There aren't any specific motifs, but the style was very the same. The dance consisted of elongations of the legs or arms. The dancers really know how to use every part and inch of their body to make the dance come alive. were dominantly what this ballet lingered around. The dancers were gracious with their movements and they never cut off certain moves, they finish them and extend them more and more. They extend to every direction. This piece to me really illustrates freedom and carelessness. It's very free and there aren’t any set formations just flow. The dancers move freely in every space they can find or fill. The dancers are also very self conscious of the space around them, but in a sense they lose themselves in the moment, but …show more content…
It was all so brought together so well. Besides the dancing, the costumes were very plain. They fit the style, but they could have been more interesting. Also the colors and setting were very plain. The nude and browns aren’t good costume choices, but again going back to the theme the dance it matched the costumes. The costumes were very body sculpting and maybe King, wanted to audience to focus on the beautiful extension and shapes that are being made. In addition, the choreography is so complicated and captivating, that the focus really isn't on the costumes it's more on the movement and the

All I can say is, the story had somewhat of a quicker pace and sometimes harder to follow and small details could easily be missed, and the lighting was a tiny bit distracting when it flashed across the stage quickly. The use of sound effects was used to signify different things that caught the attention of the viewers and really added a special touch to the play. The play showcased beautiful and stunning singing which made the play more authentic, combined with the elaborate dances numbers truly made the show breathtaking and…

The costuming is gorgeous and helps you to see the distinctive characters throughout the performance. The costumes are beautiful and fits Parisian style, setting, and time-period of the story. The scenery helps the audience to envision that they are actually seeing the streets of Paris prior to the French Revolution. Both performances have similarities but also have very distinct contrasts. Both dances rely heavily on arm, leg, shoulder, and head movements.…

The music was loud and I had to put earplugs in just to make it through the performance. The dancers were clapping their hands, posing, as the 80’s music played. The female performer with the purple and gold dress had a great catwalk. She was one of the best performers in that piece. “Intervertebral” by Cari K. Cunningham was really good.…

It was similar to the moonwalk with way more energy and creativity behind it. Not to mention, his movements are very strict to the art form. The energy level in the performance is extremely high. All the dancers that participated in it all had their own personal stories that they could relate to which made the dance so special. Everyone was truly happy to be performing and telling the story. Another thing that really worked well with the dance was all the different parts throughout the dance along with the formations. Never did I once get bored and drift off into space while that dance was on stage. The choreography was so dynamic and unique that you never knew what to watch because everything that was going on was so beautiful.…

You can see the colors of the attire worn by the dancers, the sound of music while the dancers dance, and the love of what they do through their faces, but it is fleeting because dance only happens once. You can never see the same performance twice. It will be different every time, whether it is different dancers on stage or a slight change in the music, but that’s why I like dance because though it is never the same, the emotion you will feel while watching this live art being danced in front of you will forever be the same. The audience should consider itself to be a full member of a dance production because they are what keeps dance performances going.…

It was quiet hilarious to see the way the dancers reflected all the different dwarfs from the clumsy one to the shy one and the way they interacted with Snow White. This even made it impossible to tell whether the choreography was meant to look the way it did because you would see timing issues and choreography mistakes but because of the mood and the characters themselves, it looked funny and right at the same time. The queen was one of the outstanding dancers because she owned her role, from the moment she was introduced till the very end. Her costume was amazing and she pulled you in and just made you want to see more of her and her evil ways.…

The performance meant a lot to me because it gave me a whole new perspective in the importance of dancing. The dance represented a familiar scenario which I recognized in professional theaters. This was worth my money and time because I was amused and thrilled with new content. The theme of the dance was easy to recognize because of the performers body language and visual appearance. It basically let me know whether it was dark or happy themed.…

The seniors of the BFA and BA dance programs at the University of Florida put together the show Mind Your Step. This show incorporated many different styles of work from both students and dance faculty. This semester’s showcase was quite different the showcase in the spring entitled Being, which featured several very similar dances. This time no dance was alike and some looked as if they had been created by a professional dance company. The first dance of the evening was Psalms of Mass Destruction (Or: Lost).…
