Sarah Dessen Sarah Dessen is the writer of several young adult novels, including The Truth About Forever, This Lullaby, and Just Listen. She has written books for almost two decades. Along for the Ride is the ninth book written by Sarah Dessen. She was born in Evanston, Illinois on June 6, 1970. She graduated from the University of North Carolina with the highest honors in creative writing. She now lives in North Carolina (where the book is set) with her husband, daughter Sasha Clementine, two dogs, a few lizards, and quite a few chickens.
Inference My inference is that the title, Along for the Ride is a metaphor. It means that instead of giving up when you fall or fail, you have to get back up and go along for the ride. In the book, Auden is completing a quest. Part of her quest is learning how to ride a bike. The first time she tries, she falls, but as she attempts it gradually, she improves. The bike also symbolizes life and new experiences.
