How To Change In James Preller's Along Came Spider

I recently just finished James Preller’s Along Came Spider. In this novel, Spider Stevens (Robert Stevens) and Trey Cooper the two main characters, have lived next to each other their entire lives. They've been bestfriends since second grade. As they move to 5th grade, Spider starts to realize that Trey has a weird behavior that he never really noticed until middle school. Spider didn't really pickup on it in elementary school. Spider’s 5th grade class notices how weird Trey is and Spider eventually feels like he has to pick between Trey or his class. Spider and Trey’s friendship goes from being super close to distant. A significant passage of the theme statement is, when Ryan and Trey are in class. Ryan says to Spider, “I don't get it, how come …show more content…
One example of external conflict was when he was not being loyal to Trey. Spider turning away from Trey is an external conflict because, Spider struggles having to be “friends” with Trey and also not get caught being associated with Trey. Spider just wants to fit in with the popular kids, but the only thing stopping him is Trey. After School, In Trey’s backyard, Spider and Trey are talking. Spider tells Trey, “I know you can't be exactly like everybody in school, Trey. I just wish you’d try not to be so weird, It's cool that we hang out at home, But do you think maybe, you know, in school, you could… Chill out a little bit? Around here we’ll be friends. But in school… maybe not so much?” (Preller 59-61). This conflict causes Spider to grow and change because, Spider is not being fair to Trey at all. Yet trey doesnt notice it. He's not getting a clue that Spider doesn't want to be seen with him. This is important for understanding the book because Spider does want to be friends with Trey, but he wants to keep their friendship more private because he thinks Trey is an

There are various forms of domination, coercion, and constraints in society, which lead to conflicting interest (Robbins et al., 2012). These conflicting interest lead to conflicts, and in turn bring about change in society by resolving these conflicts. Conflicts can occur within a system, called endogenous conflicts and include issues of the dispersion of power and resources (Robbins et al., 2012). They can also occur between systems, called exogenous conflicts, which can lead to wars (Robbins et al., 2012). Whether the conflict is endogenous or exogenous, the result of the conflict is change.…

How the theme that is said in this prompt can be incorporated into the novel is when things get shaky when the administration starts wondering about what caused the suspension of Philip Malloy. In the novel this happened especially when Philip became “world famous” just because of singing the National Anthem. 1. Jonathan Maberry, the author of award-winning book Rot and Ruin, writes this story in a very eye-captivating way including interesting character development and plot through the theme of “Sometimes you have to be the change you want to see”. The story starts off with the protagonist, Benny, hating his brother, Tom, for his cowardly appearance in his first memory of his parents and the zombie-infested, ruin, outside of the encumbrance of the fence. As the story progresses Benny must find a job or he will lose the slim food rations he has. When the cutoff date ever so slowly approaches Benny eventually accepts that he needs to work with his brother, killing zombies upon special request.…

Setting: Soil symbolizes the setting in the novel “Witness” because like the soil is the base of a plant, the setting is the foundation of where and when the story takes place. The specific setting in the book is in “Vermont” and the time period is “1924” (Hesse 1). This provides the reader with a very general and basic idea but does not fully explain the setting.…

I read The Rule of Three by Eric Walters. In my opinion, the topic of this book is conflict. Throughout the story, the characters Herb, Adam, Lori, and Todd all face countless examples of conflicts and work to resolve them. Some examples of conflict are the mysterious loss of power, violent criminals, and the need of supplies. One of the biggest examples of conflict is the mysterious lose of power.…

Conflict is the anxiety caused by two opposite characters or the struggles created between a person and the society (Cuddon, 2013 & Quinn, 2006). According to them, conflicts are divided into internal and external. Internal conflicts happen when the character struggles with himself, his inner side, whereas external happens when the character struggles with another character or the society, the outer world. In this part of my thesis paper, I will be focused on the external and internal conflicts of the main character Jay Gatsby.…

In the book Abduction, by Peg Kehret, one of the main themes is to be aware of your surroundings and do not talk to strangers because it can lead you to adversity and/or conflict. This theme is important to the story because if Matt or other people would have been aware of their surroundings they never would have had adversity or have made bad decisions. The story would have no outline and then their would be no story to follow. The first example of the theme is when Matt was at school one day and he was going to the bathroom when he ran into a unknow man dressed in a UPS uniform.…

It’s a town filled with farms and the whole county goes to the same high school. Most people that lived close together know each other, yet the friendliness that is given and received is just a social norm that people felt like they had to follow. In reality, most were bitter and gossiped about how Steve did this, or Rachel didn’t show up to church. Simple, stupid things that in the long run mean nothing, however without these high school-like characteristics, they would find themselves lacking any real content to discus. Then there’s me, at four years of age I will start my first day at Pinebrook elementary school, a school surrounded by rows of corn as far as my eyes can see coming over the bridge towards the…
