In today's day and age, with the ever growing use of technology, it has become increasingly easier for technology companies to deceive its consumers. People want the latest and most advanced technologies that they will buy any product claiming to be the latest technology. In Sherry Turkle's essay "Alone Together: Why We Expect More From Technology and Less from Each Other," Ethan Watters' essay "The Mega-Marketing of Depression in Japan," and Tim Wu's essay "Father and Son," the big technology companies in each essay use different tactics to deceive their customers into buying and using their products. They make products that form a relationship with the technology and the companies. These relationships are deceptive as the relationships formed are not as impactful as technology companies create them to be. These relationships are built on lies and false advertising. They use these relationships to create a more sinister connection to their consumers. The companies trap their consumers into using their company before other companies.

Apple represents the closed market and Google represent the open market. Apple and their stance on providing a high quality experience has made Apple a closed off company. Google on the other hand has advocated for openness. Consumers will choose one or the other. The bait Apple and Google use is the one of which is better. Like the classic Apple versus Android debate, the debate becomes open versus closed. When people choose they are further entrapped but the range of services offered to them. If the consumer ever wanted to switch or try another provider, the consumers are trapped. The variety of services that Apple and Google provide make it hard and inconvenient to switch.
