November 27, 2017 Aloft and Marriott Hotels Andre Balazs once said, “All good hotels tend to lead people to do things they wouldn't necessarily do at home.” Marriott Hotels are a parent company to Aloft Hotels. Most of the Marriott Hotels are designed towards older generations and appeal more to the, while Aloft is more geared toward the millennial generation and include amenities that appeal to us. With newer generations paying more for experience than for material items, this is a great marketing strategy. As a millennial, I feel as if Aloft hotels are more appealing to me than the other brands that Marriott has to offer. When it was formed, it was originally named Starwood Capital Partners. In 1993, they bought their first hotel. Just a year later they owned more than 30 properties. In 1997 the name was changed to Starwood Lodging. Also, that year, they purchased Westin Hotels & Resorts for $1.8 billion and the ITT Sheraton Corporation for $14.3 billion. They did this because Starwood wanted to become a global enterprise. After purchasing these, the name was again changed to Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Once these hotels were added they owned more than 650 hotels and resorts. By 2001, Starwood is recognized by major players in the travel industry. In 2007, Starwood announces the release of Aloft Hotels. “Aloft Hotels will raise the bar in the select-service category, offering urban-inspired, loft-like guest rooms, enhanced technology services, landscaped outdoor spaces for socializing day and night, and an energetic lounge scene.” (Starwood Hotels and Resorts , 2017).
