Knowledge is crucial to surviving any situation no matter how dire. Without knowledge you will not know what to do, and you won’t assess the situation to your advantage. You also won't be able to figure out your next best option. In “Alone. Injured. Almost Dead: A Gripping Survival Story in the Sierra Nevada” by Kenneth Miller, a guy named Gregg Hein fell off a cliff in the Sierra Nevada. “... but he knew that using a tourniquet could mean losing his limb.” Miller, pg 2). To stop the bleeding Gregg used his knowledge and decided that using a tourniquet was not his best option. If he didn’t use his knowledge to assess the situation he could have lost his leg or even worst his life. It was getting close to night and his pants were soaked in blood.
