GoalThe goal of this lab was to compare specific gravity as well as the cost of 100g of protein and 100cal from different types of fluid milk.
DENSITY The milk products with the lowest densities were both plant based beverages, namely the coconut and the almond milk. As predicted, eggnog had the highest density value, followed by 1% chocolate milk and powdered skim milk, the latter values were not as expected. It was expected that the chocolate milk would have a lower density than 2% and homogenized milk, as 1% has less fat. It was also expected that skim milk and powdered skim milk would have similar densities. It was also expected that blend cream would have one of the highest densities as it was, along with eggnog, the creamiest product. However, it exhibited the lowest density of the animal based product.

This coincides with findings by (REF), which stated that non-dairy drinks were low in proteins, vitamins and minerals, despite this, consumers often purchase milk substitutes with the illusion that it is more nutritious than animal milks. However, plant based milk beverages cannot adequately replace animal sourced milk on their own, especially in infants, as it could lead to nutritional deficiencies (REF). The least expensive appeared the Scotsburn 2% milk, at 4.15$ however this price was likely due to a sale, as the other brand at an other store was 6.24$.
