Summary of Events On November 14, 2015 a fire was reported at 2447 Alma Street to Rapides Parish Communication Center. Assistant Chief Brooks requested me (Reggie Hebert) to investigate and determine the origin and cause of the fire. Upon my arrival Chief Brooks informed me that the entire left side of the structure was fully involved when they arrived also, with an exposure on the left side.
Interviews
Erica King B/F DOB 1-25-85 stated; “Me and my family just moved into the house two weeks ago. Tonight, I cooked supper and called all the children to come to the dining room to eat. A safety survey of the scene revealed no imminent hazards were present. Beginning my exterior investigation on the exposure (2443 Alma Street) facing the front of the house from Alma Street. The front, left, and rear of the structure was clear of any burn or smoke patterns. Examining the right side of the house, the electric meter was already removed prior to the fire. This wall did show signs of heating, the sap in several of the boards were drawn out due to the heat. A plastic cable box and a garbage can were melted that was also positioned on this wall. Moving into the interior of the exposure the entire portion of the house including the outside utility room was clear of any burn or smoke patterns. Entering the living room, I continued through the living room and entered hallway. Walking down the hallway, a bathroom was to my left, a bedroom at the very end of the hall and another bedroom on the right of the hall. The paint was blistered and charred in the hallway and smoke staining was from floor to ceiling. Entering the bedroom on the right side first, the bedroom was moderately furnished. No burn patterns were found in this room, but the walls, ceiling, and furnishings were covered in heavy soot. Entering the bedroom at the end of the hall, this room was also moderately furnished. No burn patterns were found, only heavy deposits of soot covered the furniture, walls and ceiling. As I continued up the hallway I examined the bathroom. Soot covered the walls and ceiling, and the only burn patterns I found was to the door leading into the bathroom. Entering back into the living room, the wall paneling was charred heavily with a line of demarcation about three feet from the floor. The living room opened up into the dining room, the dining room had a line of demarcation ranging from two and three feet from the floor. All of the ceiling tiles were consumed in the fire exposing the rafters.
