I believe art is about regeneration. It is about taking something blank, limp, and lifeless and giving it breath. We were created to create. Through our creativity we can instill new ideas, images, and dreams. Art does not simply play on the surface of society but seeps into the dirty crevices commenting on politics, depravity, and religion. I believe the artist has one of the loudest podiums; reaching people who can barely grasp the hard realities of life but are able to be affected by the familiar or the bizarre. Like the great James Baldwin once said, “The role of the artist is exactly the same as the role of the lover, if I love you, I have to make you conscious of the things you don’t see.”

I was placed in charge of makeup application, instruction, and management for a number of shows including Summit University’s The Miracle Worker, Cinderella, and 3 Irish Plays. As well as aiding Salem Baptist Christian School in their productions of The Perfect Idiot and The Curious Savage. My education on special effects makeup is very limited; however I adore it and am anxious grow in it. While at Summit I was privileged to have two makeup application sessions with Jim O’Hora a professional makeup instructor and entrepreneur mentored by a relative of Ben Nye from Ben Nye’s makeup.
