Allusions In To Kill A Mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee has many significant themes. There are uplifting Biblical themes in the book that can help us in our spiritual walk with God. Two Biblical themes in To Kill a Mockingbird that stood out to me are courage and empathy. After Mrs. Dubose’s death, Atticus defines courage as “when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do” (Lee 128). To Atticus, showing courage didn’t mean to win. Indeed, courage meant sticking to what you started with, even if the world may condemn you.
Although he was referring to Mrs. Dubose at that time, Atticus had to show courage later in the novel. He continues to defend Tom Robinson,
