The things that made Clarisse unique are, "I like to smell things and look at things, and sometimes stay up all night, walking, and watch the sun rise" (Bradbury 3). In the society, these actions are considered illegal and nobody ever did them. Nonetheless, Clarisse didn't care about the risks, and her family lives the way they believe people should be living. Clarisse also influenced Montag when, "Laughter blew across the moon-coloured lawn from the house of Clarisse and her father and mother and the uncle who smiled so quietly and so earnestly" ( Bradbury 7). The people in the society did not communicate with each other the way Clarisse’s family did. Instead, all they did was talk to the television. Montag was shocked to hear them sincerely laughing and talking to each other happily, which made him question his happiness. This led to Montag trying to look for his happiness, which he thinks are in books, and therefore stopped burning books. Although Clarisse was only present in the beginning of the book, her role made a huge impact throughout the novel. Her actions were not accepted in the society, she didnt stop being who she was and even tried to spread
