These two memes are in a category of humor called low humor, which carries no intellectual appeal and employs humor that is over-the-top or unsubtle nature. However there are several sub-genres in the low comedy range like farce and travesty, furthermore our memes fall into those two classifications. The “Grumpy Cat” meme is a farce because the author deliberately provoked laughter by highly exaggerating the caricature of Obama. They artificially Obama’s persona by stating that Barack Obama is so atrocious that the only reason “Grumpy Cat” is grumpy is because of our President. The meme about Hannah Montana and President Bush not only falls under the farce region but also falls under the travesty category. It’s considered a travesty because the quote illustrates Hannah Montana, which is considered a cultural production.
