Our Second Amendment protects an individual's rights to own a firearm unconnected with service in a military, and to use that firearm for traditionally lawful purpose such as self-defense. The right to own and bear arms laws is as fundamental and as essential to maintaining liberty as are the rights of free speech, a free press, and freedom of religion. As a result of the Second Amendment, I understand that it is not that hard to get or have access to a firearm and that gun control laws are just as old as the Second Amendment.
