Allometric Growth Lab Report

Allometric growth, known as Allometry, is a technique of explaining the different various ways of growth ratios in the parts of the human body. It doesn’t matter on the actual age of the person because the body still grows in different rates. The key purpose of this experiment was to determine, if a baby’s body part ratio measurement would be determined as an allmetric or isometric to an adult’s body part ratio measurement. Allmetric is when two parts of the body are growing at a different rate, however an isometric means when two parts of the body are growing at the same rate. In the lab conducted, the Independent Variable (manipulated variable) in the lab was the group because we all has a different measurement of arm and the Dependent Variable, (measure variable) in the lab was the height and hand length because the measurements of the body part can make a change. The controlled variable (wasn’t changed) was the height of adults and the baby because during the …show more content…
Table 1.1 was data of measurements from the tip of the right-hand middle finger to the right-hand wrist finding out that the newborn measured average as the rest of the group, who got measured. In Table 1.2 was data of measurements from the right-hand shoulder joint to the tip of the right-hand middle finger. The data compared the difference between the the newborn and adults in height and body part measurements. In the result is was calculated that the ratios between the newborn and the group are very similar. The newborn’s height was different then us because our bodies might be growing in different ratio, but there is still an involvement of isometric growth. My hypothesis was proven wrong because I had assumed that a baby would have a smaller size in the arm length. But with reading some online sources, I realize that it does matter how old you are or how tall you are, but still the body grows in an isometric

Interactive Question 7.2 Cite some experimental evidence that indicates that membrane proteins drift. A good form of experimental evidence is Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching, aka FRAP. In the FRAP process, membrane proteins are labelled with a green fluorescent protein, and part of the plasma membrane is “bleached” with a laser, causing them to lose their fluorescence. The part that was bleached will eventually become fluorescent again, as molecules drift in by diffusion.…

In this domain, physical attributes and capabilities of the child were observed. One way to measure physical growth is in terms of height and weight (Barnfield & Kail, 2012, p.111). Marias’s height is 54.4 inches and her weight is 84 pounds. Based on Body Mass Index Table for aged 2-19 years acquired from Dietitians of Canada’s website (2014), Maria’s Body Mass Index (BMI) is 19.9 which suggest that Maria’s weight and height is normal for her age. Additionally, based on Height-Weight-for-age Chart for 2 to 19 years old girls, Maria’s percentile falls on above the 3rd percentile but below 85th percentile and this suggests that her weight is healthy for her age (Dietitians of Canada, 2014).…

Biological approach It is important for health care professionals to know development norms so they will be able to identify whether a baby or child is growing at a normal rate. Arnold Gesell developed a so called assessment scale which helps health professionals identify weather the behavior and understanding matches the age of the child. This helps health professionals see if a service user has development problems and if identified in advance they may get the appropriate intervention. It is important that health professionals have a good understanding of the links between certain illnesses and genetics such as schizophrenia and autism.…

However, there are recommended guidelines that you can use from the Academy of Pediatrics that indicates the number of soiled diapers that indicate if your child is feeding enough. You can also tell based on your child's mood. If your baby is grouchy a lot or seems to want to nurse "forever", he may be undernourished and you may want to discuss supplementation with your pediatrician. Be sure to keep all of your baby's appointments during their first year of life.…
