When reflecting on the goal for the Alligator River Story, I have realized that I have become more aware of the issues that can challenge my thinking in a conflict/negotiation. This goal has been recognized when considering my stance when it comes to the topic of if a name influences judgement. I am torn between agreeing and disagreeing that a name can influence judgement. I am undecided due to the fact that I believe that personal associations can have a positive or negative influence of a name. For example, when naming a baby, if the parents like to name the baby after a close relative or good friend. You wouldn’t want to use names that are associated with someone you don’t like.

Overall, it did seem that I did have more sympathy with

Florida is a land of sun palm trees and sand. Florida being a southern state with sweet tea, Publix, and Disney just a few hours away, had many perks. I had never thought of what it might be like to grow up in a northern area, or just even outside of Florida. Up until my 14th summer I had always assumed everyone lived the same way I did. It had all started when I got accepted to a summer program in Washington D.C to attend a medical forum.…

Today Kit and i led the group to Izaak Walton lake. I was nervous this morning for taking such a big role. I didn’t want the power to get to my head and end up being mean or over demanding. In the early morning i went around telling people to get water and start undoing their tents. Surprisingly we ate, broke down our gear, and began our stretch circle forty minutes before the usual.…

“A leader has to watch every word he or she says and quickly learns that you can’t go through life without a few critics, some well deserved” (pg. 5), this quote as some of the beginning words from MacDonald truly shows that a leader has responsibilities to uphold to. I found it interesting that he showed these responsibilities are not only external, but internal as well. Many do not realize the internal battles that leaders in ministry go through, and in order for leaders to handle a situation in a mature manner; they must uphold to the responsibilities of character they are expected to maintain. There are many internal and external expectations of leaders that are specified in Building Below the Waterline, but only some really stood out to me as factors that I would practice more than others in my leadership positions.…

Close call on Current River In the small town of Popular Bluff, Missouri, sun was brightly shining down on this hot summer morning, making it the optimum day to go tubbing down Current River. That morning there were about eight of us going tubbing, my stepfather Larry, two uncles, an aunt, my sister, my two brothers and I. We loaded up the car with the essentials that would be needed; then we loaded up into two vehicles and headed for the river. When we finally arrived at the water’s edge my brother John and I were so excited, we basically leapt out of the car before it came to a complete stop.…

I was conceived at the bottom of Grand Canyon. At four months old I was on my first river trip. The Colorado River banks were my first playground, and as someone who wants to preserve the wild landscape that I call home, I am looking to the future to figure out what I can do to ensure its protection as environmental changes continue to occur. The rivers of the west are my sanctuary, whether it be the Green, the San Juan, or the mighty Colorado, every river trip I have ever been on has been one of the happiest times of my life. Experiencing the outdoors at a young age that has shaped me to become the person I am today.…

When I was ten years old, I moved to West Texas. I loved swimming in the lakes and ponds around my home before, so I was disappointed when I found out that there was only one body of water near my new home. This “lake” (about the size of a football field) was called Clearwater Lake. It took about an hour’s time to drive there. The first time my family drove over there, I was amazed by how many people there were, all the cars packed liked sardines, the people moving so slowly it was like molasses.…

“You can start whenever you’re ready” The boy looked down at his pale, shaking hands, then up at the ceiling. Anywhere except for the man with the clipboard in front of him.
