Originally the Texas lands were populated by the Caddo and Comanche tribes who inhabited the region that would eventually become Allen Texas. As early pioneers ventured into the area, the native tribes migrated westward, until finally they were driven into the territory located north of the Red River.
In the mid-19th century, immigrants settlers of European descent traveled to Allen in search of opportunity. The early pioneers traveled for great distances, enduring many hardships, with the promise of free land granted as part of the Peter's Colony Land Grant issued by the Republic of Texas.
The railroad, built in 1872, brought many opportunities to the developing region.
The town of Allen was originally located along the Houston and Texas Central Railroad.
In 1907, land on the west side of Houston was purchased by the Texas Traction Company to build the Interurban line. The railroad company had plans to add Allen as one of the stops on the popular line from Denison to Dallas. Allen Event Center
The city of Allen is the proud home to a 7,000 plus seat arena, which offers its many residents a chance to enjoy great entertainment in a large venue. The large arena, managed by the city's Parks and Recreation Department, first opened its doors in 2009. To date, the spectacular arena averages over 300,000 visitors annually.
The Courses at Watters Creek
The spectacular golf courses at Watters Creek are designed to embrace golfers of all skill levels. The city's recent $8 million dollar renovation added to the course wonderful new practice and learning facilities. Watters Creek features a more traditional 18-hole course, as well as a driving range and more compact nine and six hole ranges.
