Allen Cunningham's Beliefs On Social Work

Social work can give the chance for professionals to be there for their clients in rough times. Give them a chance to believe theirs is still hope when they think hope is lost. One story was about, Allen Cunningham works with children to children working with kids who faces a loss of a parent's. I agree with his beliefs on his job, and that fact that when someone loses a parent whether it is a mother or a father, it does not just affect the children, but the other spouse can be affected as well. He has the opportunity to watch people handle their grief and help them through it. Watching a mother suffer from depression as she lost her husband and then her sister can be tough, but seeing her overcome those obstacles is one of the rewards that come with social work. …show more content…
Allen Cunningham’s story also tells us “we need to have patience with people.” Especially with someone grieving a lost, I believe this is a huge key aspect. Social workers can get angry with themselves because they are not seeing an outcome they were hoping for even after working so long with a client. However, the problem with that is that it may not necessarily be something the professional is doing, but that people grieve in different ways, and the process can take longer for some people. The overall point of this story is to show the people grieve in many different ways, and being in the field of social work, you will work with this on a daily basis, even if it is not over the loss of something or someone. A major key to remember that comes from this story is to have patience and just work through it with the clients, and try to understand what they are going
