This generation is different from the generations in the past. Many things have changed over the years such as politics, phones, computers, and the internet - basically, technology as a whole. This present generation are like the people chained to the cave in Plato’s The Allegory of the Cave. In the story, prisoners are trapped in a cave and do not know real things like animals, trees and the sun. They are only used to the shadows that are displayed on the wall that is controlled by the puppeteers. One of the prisoners eventually escapes, and is amazed to see the real objects compared to the two dimensional figures on the wall. They use them for everything: to make phone calls, send emails, take photos, get directions, store information, surf the Web, and play games. Essentially, this made mobile phones perfect for tracking and bugging. The government can now gather information of U.S. citizens and permanent residents by the things that they use on a day-to-day basis. This includes using GPS systems, the internet, and public cameras. Instead of using a map like the older generations have used, they created portable GPS systems as a faster and more effective way to get directions. In the past, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) were made for military use, for navigational purposes, in the 1960’s. Soon after, in 2005, the first modernized GPS satellite was launched. Now, GPS’s are automatically programed into smartphones and are built into some cars. They are easy to buy from stores like Walmart, Radio Shack, Target, and Best Buy, just to name a few.
