The crucible by arthur miller is an allegory for the mccarthy era because there were false accusation, fear in the society and, how they control the government. The false accusation is really important to this book because that is how innocent people were getting their lives taken away from them. How the crucible started was three servent that were dancing in the woods at midnight outside of salem, Abigail, Betty and Tituba. When they came out of the woods betty lost consciousness. When the doctor griggs came into town he mention witchcraft. The girls lied about what they were doing in the woods which lead to false accusation. Abigail -“She sends her spirit on me in church, she makes me laugh at prayer!.”(act one).In the book abigail acting like betty is telling her what to do and pretending she see betty as a witch. During witchcraft there was nineteen men and women being but on trails. Most of the fear in the society was not knowing what would happen if there was actually witchcraft in salem.
