Allegories

The allegories I have chosen are The Furies, or the Erinyes. The Furies are ministers of Hades. They follow his orders, or go off on their own to punish crimes that juries and judges can not. Punishments likely mean torture, physical and mental. There are three Furies, Tisiphone, Megaera, and Alecto. Each one presides over a certain offense. Tisiphone presides over sins caused over hatred and anger. Megaera presides over sins crated with envy, and Alecto deals with crimes from lust and ambition. There are a fair amount of names to assign them, depending on what plain you glean the name from. In heaven, they are known as Dirae, or the ministers of divine vengeance. The furies have dark colored snakes instead of hair, scaly faces and ams, eyes inflamed with madness, thin black lips, wings that of a scaled bat, and feet of brass. the feet of brass was to show that their hunt, however slow, was steady and promised. I combined the three furies into one mask. I put green scales outlined in purple to portray the Furiae Megaera, by choosing colors that correspond to envy and memory. near it I placed a violet spiral to symbolize advanced spirituality and macrocosm, or the idea that one is apart of a bigger picture. Under the right eye I drew blood dripping down in both a nod to one depiction of the furies, and to symbolize he Furiae Alecto, who also presides over crimes of murder. to portray Tisaphone I made the sharp eyebrow red and black o symbolize anger, death, and chaos. Under the left eye I drew a black triangle to portray that the furies are a trifecta of darkness that sees all crime. I placed a black sun with a whie circle in the middle to show the mystery of their divine sight along with morality and eternity of their
