Childhood
Allan Joseph Legere was born in Chatham, New Brunswick. Allan grew up in a poor family, with the absence of a father. Additionally, he had a younger brother and they were both raised by their single mother. During his childhood, his fifteen-year-old brother was run over by a truck. Therefore he was left traumatized also his mother would tell him that the wrong person was killed. Furthermore, his suffering as a child in his hometown made him develop hatred towards his community. Overall, it led him to become a serial killer as he is known as today, “The Monster of Miramichi”.

Furthermore, many people think the reason he kills is because of the suffering he went through as a child. For example, his brother dying could have caused him to develop hatred towards his community because he blamed them for his brother’s death. Additionally, if he was not raised in this environment and maybe if his brother didn’t die then Allan wouldn’t become the killer as he is known as today. During this reign, he committed the murder of five people and arson in the time span of June 21, 1986, until his second capture on November 24, 1989. In the first trial, Allan pleaded not guilty, however, was found convicted of second-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison with the eligibility for parole in 18 years. He was caught fleeing from the crime scene and reported by the wife of the first victim, John Glendenning.
His Escape
Unfortunately, Allan managed to escape from custody, when he was taken to a hospital to treat his ear infection. He used a homemade key, which he had hid in a cigar, to pick the lock on his handcuffs. As a weapon, he used a piece of a TV antenna that he had concealed on his body, and held the officers at bay before fleeing the building. Furthermore, after his escape from the hospital, Allan stole a car, therefore, was able to avoid being recaptured right away.
