Allan Johnson describes privilege to be a feature of social systems and not necessarily that of the individuals. I can concur as privilege is not based on the individual, but rather what the aspects of the social systems presented to that individual is. It does not matter on the race of the person, but rather how the society the person lives in organizes that feature. Now, this can be a positive or negative feature depending on the society that the person is in. For the U.S., this is more of a positive if the person is white. Being Chinese has led my family to realize that the often get stepped on and ignored when it comes to public interactions with others unless they are interacting with the same race or other races not white.
