Objects are the silent, inanimate characters to a good story. They supply the reader with suspense, inquiries, and information. In the story All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, Werner, a German boy of the age 15 is deployed to a more prestige school for his advanced skills. Marie-Laure is 14-year-old French girl who went blind and lives with her great uncle, Etienne. Her father was captured and imprisoned while on his way to the Museum of Natural History in Paris. Madame Manec, her great aunt, had recently died due to an illness. Before her father left, he made her a small replica of the town Saint-Malo, the town she is currently in. A wardrobe in Etienne’s home, magical stone, and Werner’s transcievers are three of the many significant objects in this book that will be evaluated. A wardrobe is a keeper of many things. It can hold clothes, shoes, personal belongings, and in this case, a person. In this flash-forward event, Marie-Laure was hiding from an insidious German soldier who had invaded her home in 1944. The person who found it was a prince. Soon, he was attacked and stabbed in the heart. Because the stone was in his hand, he was able to crawl home where he then went unconscious. Ten days later, he awoke with the stone still in hand. While the stone saved the prince’s life, it also cursed him with misfortune for as long as he retained it. The stone was later hid behind several feet of solid metal doors in the Museum of Natural History in Paris, France. When Marie-Laure and her father fled their hometown of Paris, her father was given one of five replicas of the stone; none of the employers knew who had the real stone.
