The story All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury, is about a group of nine year old kids on Venus who are waiting for the sun to come out after seven years of rain. They were all born on Venus and do not remember the sun because they were two years old when it last shone. One of the children, Margot, came to Venus when she was four and still remembers the sun from when she was on Earth, and her parents might be taking her back to Earth in a few years. When people have a deep loathing for others because they have experienced things that others long for, they blame people who have nothing to do with their problem.

Another point of view may be that the main theme of this story is bullying. Although, it could be interpreted that bullying

While the children are waiting for the sun to come out a boy by the name of William, begins to harass Margot, “He gave her a shove.” They think of her as less than them, because she will not play games or sing songs in class. The situation quickly escalates and the other children grab her and throw her in a closet, “They stood looking at the door and saw it tremble from her beating and throwing herself against it. They heard muffled cries. Then, smiling they turned and went out and back down the tunnel, just as the teacher arrived. “ The children are so consumed by their desire to make themselves feel like they are better than Margot that they need to deprive her of something she has waited years for. Margot remembers the sun, and the other children think that makes her better than them, so they feel that they have to show that she is not better than them by mistreating and bullying …show more content…
She writes a poem about what the sun looks like, , this makes the children feel more resentment towards her. They do not remember the sun and she talks about what it looks like and how it feels. To the children it sounds like she is bragging and trying to make them feel bad, when really she is just reminiscing. The way she talks about the sun makes the feel even more jealous, and is another reason they act out against her. They are constantly reminded that the one thing that they want she has experienced and remembered and it is making them jealous of

As stated with examples in the previous paragraph, bullying, poverty and abuse are shown throughout this book. On top of being able to help bring awareness to these subjects, it could also be used as a tool of comfort by a reader. Young adults struggling with these issues at school or in their home could use this book as a resource to help them know they are not alone. It could help them speak out against what is taking place in their life if they were inspired by Eleanor and their journey. This book has the potential to provoke a response in a reader suffering from the same things, which could greatly help many teens across the world going through those…

The children reach guilt in the story when they locked Margot up in a closet, thinking her opinion was wrong; and made her miss the thing most important to her in the whole entire world. And on top of it, she was right. So, don’t judge people for being different and don’t deny things so quickly just because they’re unusual. Just put yourself in Margot’s shoes- imagine you were moved away from Earth at age four without choice to the raining planet Venus where the sun comes out only every 7 years or so.…

Other signs of anger that is shown towards Margot is when none of the other kids believe her when she tries to explain to them that that was the day that scientists had predicted the sun would finally show. As it says in the book,”’Nothing!’ he cried. ’It was all a joke, wasn’t it?”’ Which explains how just because Margot remembered the sun, they refuse to believe anything she says.…

It rains every day there and no one has seen the sun in a long time, except for a small girl named Margot who is bullied for remembering the sun when the other children don’t. Margot was “a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost.” This confirms what Margot looks like. The story hints that something happened to Margot that caused her to be this way.…

Then, Margot asks William why he hates her so much and he said, “Because you're such a know-it-all.” William hates Margot so much because he is jealous that she remembers the Sun and he does not. Additionally, in both the short story and the movie, William forgets Margot in the closet.…

Margot “…said nothing”, “…stood alone”, “…did not move”, “…did not follow”, and kept “…quietly apart”. This shows us that there is an absence of movement and sound around Margot and where the rest of the children are loud, restless and moving constantly Margot does the opposite to all of them by saying nothing and standing still and away from everyone from everyone else. Margot is different from the children in her stillness and isolation and Ray Bradbury has shown this to us by creating a contrast in her description by using the absence of sensory imagery to show us stillness and isolation whereas he explained fully all the sensory imagery when describing the rest of the children as moving constantly and keeping…

In this story many of the children on Venus are jealous of Margot’s opportunities and previous life on earth. When children are jealous, they turn against Margot. One example is when she is reading the poem, instead of listening to Margot the students shut her down without even listening. Just because students are jealous it does not mean that they can bully Margot. While this is important theme it is easily seen that if it weren’t for Margot not thinking about what she said or did that this wouldn’t have happened, so overall the important point is that it is needed for everyone to take a minute an think about the results in the end from what they…
