All Summer In A Day
“I hate you! You’re not a good person.” Marian read on her phone from a text message she got 3 min. Ago. It was from a private number, so Marian thought it was from a good friend of hers she got into a little fight with earlier that day. It wasn’t though, it was a bully, but Marian didn’t know that. Marian never talked to her friend again. Assuming is wrong. Marian assumed. And ruined her friendship. In my passage, “All summer in a day”, by Ray Bradbury, illustrates assuming. In this passage, we all learn that assuming is incorrect. The main character in my passage, Margot is special. She has seen the sun, to whereas the other kids that she knows, has not. At least since they were 2. The kids think that she is lying.

“All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury, is a science fiction short story. Bradbury included a one of a kind setting, superior characterization, and an ending that allowed readers to create their own, using their imagination. The setting was unique and I would have never thought of an imaginable place like Venus. Margot is a shy and frail young girl and we notice this when Bradbury describes that she is an “old photograph” and talks like a “ghost.” Over the years, good short stories and novels have been transitioned into movie adaptation.…

The children reach guilt in the story when they locked Margot up in a closet, thinking her opinion was wrong; and made her miss the thing most important to her in the whole entire world. And on top of it, she was right. So, don’t judge people for being different and don’t deny things so quickly just because they’re unusual. Just put yourself in Margot’s shoes- imagine you were moved away from Earth at age four without choice to the raining planet Venus where the sun comes out only every 7 years or so.…

In Ray Bradbury’s All Summer in a Day, readers learn that jealousy can make people do things that they wouldn’t normally do. This is obvious because of how the other kids pick on and hate Margot. Once you experience something of such great significance, it is hard to let that go and move on. This universal theme can be seen in both the song “Want You Back” by 5 Seconds of Summer, and the short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury. In “Want You Back” the band sings about a girl whom they have left and will always want back. In “All Summer in a Day” the author tells a story about students on Venus, who are in the absence of the sun, and are grieving the loss of it too. In both of these selections, the band and the author use imagery and repetition to convey the theme.…

Additionally, Adler’s theory of masculine protest influenced The Sun Also Rises. After reflecting on societal trends, Adler concluded that men see themselves as superior and have more control than women in society (Boerre 26).
