All Summer In A Day Quotes

A quote written by Doe Zantamata states the following... “Staying quiet to keep peace can be a good thing, but if the piece has already been disturbed, staying quiet doesn't make anything better. Summon your courage and speak up when you feel the need to.” This quote explains that at a certain point you have to have the strength to stand up for yourself. The main character Margot was always shy and never stood up for herself until one day when she couldn’t take it any more. A normal day on the planet Venus consists of rain, non stop rain. A young girl, Margot stands alone from the other children. Margot saw the sun when she lived on Earth. She had told the other children this, but they didn’t believe her. Margot was only happy when the sun was out. One day, Margot tells her peers that she has seen the sun and they don’t believe. The other children start calling her names and were being rude to Margot. Finally, one day the sun comes out and the children run outside with excitement while they locked Margot in the closest for her not to be able to enjoy this moment the sun was out. The closet stands for Margot being trapped within herself. I say this because she is trapped in the closet, but her personality is stuck in her body. The other children leave her out of things not giving her a chance to come out of her shell without being put down. The text states, “Hey, Everyone, let’s put her in the closet before the teacher comes” (3). This shows the children being rude to Margot and not caring about her getting a chance to see the sun. It was all about them. Also the test states, “Behind the closet door was only silence. They unlocked the door even more slowly, and let the Margot” (4). The children realized they were wrong and Margot wasn’t going to see the sun. It wasn’t fair to Margot, but the children learned a valuable lesson for the
