In a scene during the story, Bradbury writes, “so after that, dimly, dimly she sensed it, she was different and they knew her difference and kept away” (Bradbury 1954). Previously in the story, Margot had a mental breakdown in the shower and that's what the quote is describing. This quote shows that Margot is isolated and depressed. This is because she is away from the sun and her classmates don't help her feel like she fits in. Her isolation adds to her depression because she has no friends. None of the children make an effort to talk to her or play with her because they see she's different. The cause of Margot's depression is the rain. She writes a poem about the sun that says, “I think the sun is a flower that blooms for just one hour” (Bradbury 1954). This quote shows Margot's love for the sun. It shows that she thinks the sun is beautiful and natural. However, the children don't like this, they are jealous of the fact that she remembers the sun and they don't, so they argue that she didn't write that. Another very important scene takes place the very next day, when the children lock Margot up. “They surged about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a room, a closet, where they slammed hand locked the door” (Bradbury 1954). This quote takes place on the day when the sun was finally coming out after a long seven year wait. The children lock Margot up so she does not get to experience this long awaited day.
