All Summer In A Day Compare And Contrast

In life, everyone makes mistakes, it’s just that some mistakes are bigger than others. Everyone has had this feeling at least one time in their life and in the story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury and the song “Apologize” by Timbaland, this feeling is the central idea of their piece. In “All Summer in a Day,” the children in the story dispirit a girl named Margot because they feel she is different than them and the kids end up devastating Margot. In the song “Apologize,” a character has mistreated the main character that causes him to reevaluate life choices. These are colossal mistakes made by a person that jeopardizes someone else. In the story, the kids feel repentant when they “walked over to the closet door slowly and stood by it. Behind the closet door was only silence. They unlocked the door, even more slowly, and let Margot out.” At the end of this story, the classmate’s regret leads them to confront Margot and let her out of the closet. In this story, however, there is no dialogue to show that the kids apprise Margot they are sorry. In the song it states,”You tell me that your sorry/ Didn’t think I’d turn around/ And say/ That it’s too late to apologize…” The bully in the song, tries to apologize. Even though it didn’t work, the bully still tried to make it up to the victim. He tried and tried. The difference between these texts is that in the song, the bully does apologize. But in the story, the children do not apologize, they only let Margot out of the closet without saying anything. Nothing. This difference makes the resolution of both texts different. This makes the character’s guilt different and it turns them into someone different. Therefore, the two selections do have similarities, but their differences stand out more when the characters reveal their
