In the two stories, “All Summer in a Day” and “If Only We Had Taller Been” by Ray Bradbury we learn that wanting something desperately can make you act differently than you're accustomed to. These actions can be either negatively or positively. These stories have many similarities and differences. One theme that both stories have in common is to never stop believing because dreams do come true.

In the story All Summer in a Day, the characters act negatively because they were chasing something they never experienced. The author uses descriptive language to build the theme that when you desperately want something it can make you act differently than you normally do. For example, “But then they always awoke to the tatting drum, the endless shaking down of clear bead necklaces upon the roof, the gardens the forests and their dreams were gone.” (Bradbury 1) This quote shows that the children from “All Summer in a Day” were waiting and waiting for something that never came.

Bradbury informs readers to keep pursuing your dreams and ignore doubters, because everything is possible if you put your mind to it. He uses rhyme to portray this theme. One example of this is “Short man, Large dream. I send my rockets forth between my ears, Hoping an inch of good is worth a pound of years.” (Bradbury) This quote shows the author has hopes and dreams and doesn't give up on

It is impossible to write anything new. Everything has already been done, already been said, but writers take inspiration where they can get it, read what other people have written, and this encourages them to write something of their own. They add to the ongoing conversation. Sometimes, experimentation with writing happens as writers feel the need to, maybe not say something completely new, but to say it in an innovative way. This is how new genres, such as American fabulism, are born, coming out of comparable stories like “The Man in the Woods” by Shirley Jackson and “The Summer People” by Kelly Link.…

Anne Laurel Cartier, the author of the short story “Leaving the iron lung,” specifically looks at how having a dream can affect one’s life. Carter uses conflicting characters, character transformation, and the setting to illustrate that to be content with life one needs to follow their dream, even if they need to commit and sacrifice to achieve it.…
