Many Predecessors have fought for equal education opportunities for all Americans regardless of the color of their skin. Yet, people of color continue to be oppressed. It’s as if we are still living in the years of Plessy vs Ferguson. Yes, civil rights laws were passed but the same cultural aspects of the Plessy vs Ferguson still exist. There are many schools across the United States were mainly one race is prominent. This is all due to socio economic status. Kozal mentioned that by the age of 5 and 6 children are already labeled by their abilities, better yet by their parent’s Income tax information. This is not fair considering some students’ parents are financially stable. So while a poor student may have never been in the classroom until age 5, many well off students start receiving the best of the best education by age 2. Kozal stressed the importance of leveling the plain field in the education system. So that all students are able to receive the best type of schooling regardless of the amount of money a students’ parents
