John D. Freyer a man from Iowa City, Iowa made a life changing decision to sell all content of his apartment. The prominent decision lead to the development of his now project known as “All My Life for Sale”. In the year 2000, John started the process of auctioning all his life possession though eBay. Freyer sold more than 600 items on the auction website. Bringing life to each item as he describes in short stories, he parted from many favorites including a unique set of old false teeth. Freyer utilized a subjective form of information to introduce each item, with the purpose enticing potential buyers. Freyer used an intriguing approach to capture the buyer’s attention. One item that caught my interest was the set of false teeth that he sold in the auction. John focused more of a subjective form of writing to entice the buyer. He provided a personal detailed background on how he obtained the set of false teeth. In his writing, John describes how in the spring of 1980 during a family Easter gathering he trips over a wire while crossing a golf course, when he falls and hits his face on a golf cart. This incident led to John losing two of his teeth and was fitted for the false teeth. The description allows the buyer to have connection to the item by being able to have a brief insight into John’s life. After John describes how he lost his two front teeth, he recounts to the reader how after a week of waiting to have a bowel, his family gives up on the wait and gets him fitted for false teeth. This description brings a visual effect allowing the audience to mentally envision what John is experiencing throughout the process. By writing a story for the item, John tries to reach an audience in a personal level. Instead of focusing on facts such as, measurements, quality, size, he is trying to connect to an audience that could potentially relate in an emotional level.
