Alka Seltzer Reaction Paper

Decent Essays
In conclusion, our hypothesis was incorrect. After dropping an Alka-Seltzer tablet into a cup of oil, a physical change occurred. We know that the change was physical because, though bubbles were released, the tablet remained in it’s starting state and no other chemical change signs were released. An error we may have caused in an inaccurate count of bubbles, we got as close as we could but we can never be sure. From this experiment, we have learned that compared to Alka-Seltzer and water was oil’s had no dissolving and there was a physical change not a chemical change. The rate of dissolving between the two, the oil’s rate decreased. All in all oil is not a dissolvant and causes a physical change.

Like the diffusion experiment, the higher temperature in this experiment produced a faster chemical reaction, allowing the Alka Seltzer to dissolve the…

This experiment would benefit society because it informs the society the better way of consuming medicine or alka seltzer in order to see faster effect in the body. Aim: To investigate the breaking of the alka seltzer into larger surface area (½ and ¼) affects the time it dissolves. Hypothesis: The more alka seltzer is broken, it dissolves faster in water and the less it’s broken, slower it dissolves in water. Equipment: - 9…

The main objective of this lab was to collect 〖Co〗_2 gases that were given off by the Alka-Seltzer tablets and to identify experimental masses. The volume of gas was 724 liters, or 723.86 cm and the experimental mass was .0894 grams. A balance scale was used before and after the reaction to record the change in overall mass. First, using the scale, the flask, balloon, and Alka-Setlzer tablets were measured, 259.4 ±.05 Grams were found. What created the “〖Co〗_2 gases to be trapped” were the crushed Alka-Seltzer tablets that went into the flask that contained water.…

Unlike Jeannette I never moved around a lot in my life so maybe that’s why it so strange to me, but both she and I have some things in common. We both don’t seem to like our distant relatives, both of our mothers can be hypocrites, saying stand up for what you believe in and then reprimanding us about it, and both of us have been and are tricked by our fathers; in her case standing up to her racist parents and digging a foundation for the Glass Castle that the family only really wanted to use as a garbage disposal. Her family also has issues with pride just as much as mine does, only in a different way. The Walls were and are the poorest in any poor neighborhood they move to, but they bring their misfortune upon themselves. Honestly they could…

These dispersants was injected into the oil well in hope of breaking up the oil. The dispersants could break down the oil by increasing speed of decomposing, diluting it or evaporating it before reaching surface and shores that could be harmful to underwater life. Dispersants are made of solvents that mix well with the oils being released; as well surfactants and these mix well with water making it hydrophilic. This issue is that oil does not mix well with water because it is a lipid and lipids are hydrophobic; does not mix well with water. It also is made up of hydrogen bonds that increase water’s surface tension keeping the oil over the water.…

After starting with 30 mL of an unknown mixture of two solvents, fractional distillation and gas chromatography were used to identify the unknowns as acetone and toluene in a 1 to 2.04 ratio of acetone to toluene. Fractional distillation was first used to separate the unknown mixture into its components based on boiling point. Distillation refers to the method of separating components of a mixture through heating and cooling. Simple distillation, which is especially useful in the separation of less-volatile substances from volatile substances, such as sugar from water, can be used to separate a liquid-liquid mixture if the boiling points of the component liquids differ by more than 40-50°C. A plot of temperature versus volume for a simple…

The experiment that I will be conducting focuses on how fast one tablet of Alka seltzer can dissolve in various temperatures of water. The core of this procedure is to determine the impact that temperature has on how fast something dissolves. My hypothesis for this experiment would be that the Alka Seltzer that dissolves the fastest would be the one that was placed in the water with the highest temperature. There will be controlled and manipulated variables explained throughout the experiment. The two main things used in this experiment will be the solute and the solvent, which is Alka Seltzer and water.…

3.1.1.1.1. Properties Rests symbols plays a fundamental role in the symbolic time axis, and they could be inserted between notes or at the end of a musical passage. For this reason, the total symtime duration of a theme is not always equal to the sum of the note duration, so the total symtime duration is an additional property associated to a theme. Other important property associated to a theme is the total number of elements (i.e., rows). Properties of a theme are denoted using the dot symbol, i.e., theme.duration , theme.rows.…

Discussion Graph 1 displays the reaction time (in minutes) of how long it took for the Alka-Seltzer tablet to completely dissolve per trial. Graph 2 displays the averages of the reaction time which showed the higher the water temperature is, the faster the reaction time would be. At 65⁰C the average time for the Alka-Seltzer to completely dissolve was 1 minute 4 seconds followed by 1 minute 20 seconds at 35⁰C and ending with the highest average at 2 minutes 1 second (1.61). The hypothesis stated that hot water temperature would make the Alka-Seltzer tablet dissolve the fastest.…

An emulsifier works at the surface of two immiscible liquids and tends to reduce the interfacial tension between two different liquids by reinforcing the in contact surface between them. The larger the ratio of surface area to volume of oil, the smaller the oil droplets dispersed in the water. Finer dispersion of oil droplets is required more emulsifier to surround them and thus this can maintain the stability of emulsion in the system. If the emulsifier is absent, the two immiscible liquids will quickly separate after they mixed. Thus, emulsifiers can be considered as the liaisons between the two liquids and serve to stabilize the…

Intermolecular forces are between molecules and are weak forces of attraction. There are four intermolecular forces including hydrogen bonding, dipole-dipole forces, dipole-induced dipole forces, and london dispersion forces. Hydrogen bonding is the strongest and occurs when one hydrogen molecule is attracted to another molecule.…

USP Apparatuses are used for dissolution testing but the shortcoming of some of these apparatuses is not being able to mimic the conditions in the biological system. USP Apparatus 3 have recently been developed and has shown to have superiority over the other USP Apparatuses 1 and 2 based on the mentioned disadvantage, and others. USP Apparatus 1 is called the Basket and USP Apparatus 2 the Paddle. USP Apparatus 3 is called the Bio-Dis and is a reciprocating cylinder, it is versatile and is essential for assessing the release characteristics of solid oral dosage forms invitro (Bianca, 2015).…
