They were placed there by family members in order to help them be assisted with their everyday lives. As we age our lives become more vulnerable to disorders that can leave us unable to be coherent. We most likely have to depend on someone for everything and this diminishes the control we have, even over ourselves. Being institutionalized you have no choice as to even deny your medications, let alone what medications you prefer. Everything is scheduled for you at every hour and every day, with no room for spontaneity. XI. As we age people around us seem to change their perspectives of us. Being “old” is something society sees as undesirable and there are these negative stereotypes that surround aging, which most people believe. When we age our bodies and mind change, but we don’t become vegetables immediately. There is a slow process of becoming more dependent on others, especially people who have health issues.
