KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK… The pounding on the old, oak door disrupted Alice’s cleaning. Alice scurried to the door, her dull yellow dress flowing with every step she took as she fumbled to wipe her hands on a rag leaving a subtle hint of crimson under her nails. She set down the rag on the small table by the door and then reached out her milky white hand, grasping the metal handle. Light slowly flowed in, a loud creak coming from the hinges holding the weighted wood. A smile was forced onto her face as her olive eyes studied the figure at the door. “Why… h-hello,” Alice greeted, eyelashes fluttering. This woman was oddly familiar, yet a stranger. As she racked her brain, trying to put together the name belonging to this lady, she was shocked …show more content…
“Did you hear about the MacAllisters?” Alice furrowed her brow in well played confusion, “Oh, no I didn’t, what happened to the MacAllisters?” She casually placed her hands underneath her bonnet as anxiety ate at her like a starving wolf eating a rotting carcass. “Well apparently Georgia is missing!” Her neighbor exclaimed sorrowfully, she gripped her obnoxiously pink umbrella with shaking hands, “Tom came home from work and she just wasn’t there!” She wept, covering her nose and mouth with her gloved hand, “Oh how could this happen! They think she’s dead!” Alice gasped, forgetting about her earlier decision, and covered her mouth with one hand,“Now why would they think that?!” “They said that she left a note saying that she’d be home by eleven o’clock, but the clock says it is four now and she’s not home yet, and she’s known for being very punctual!” The neighbor woman sobbed and sobbed, and frankly, Alice was getting tired of it. Georgia wasn’t a particularly memorable woman, she was rather bland if you asked her. But still, the neighbor woman was crying and sad, so Alice had to act heartbroken as well.
