According to the movie, Alice Paul did everything right and she was the sole reason for women’s right to vote and Carrie Chapman Catt did nothing but be in the way of the movement. She was going to get suffrage if it was the last thing she did. I think she was portrayed fairly because in our notes we wrote that she had friction with Catt, was demanding and aggressive, and she wanted immediate action. In the movie it showed Alice Paul convincing one of the leading suffrage figures to continue on even though she was tired and needed to rest, showing that she is demanding, and wanted results. We saw the friction with Catt when Paul stole some of Catt best fundraisers and raised money under NAWSA without Catt permission. When Catt found out she called a meeting and decided to check the funds. By doing this she took all the money from Paul. This action led to the split from NAWSA. Paul started her own party, the National Women’s Party. Having her own party led to big differences from NAWSA. Alice Paul believed in more aggressive strategies, and focus on passing a Constitutional Amendment, instead of going state to state.
