Alice Monologue

The Secrets The sun hung low in the sky as night began to dawn on the small village. A girl named Alice was finishing her assigned chores after the rest of the staff had gone to bed. Alice had recently been promoted to head maid in the manor where she had worked for her entire life. Long shadows were cast in the laundry as Alice began to finally make her way down to her quarters as per her usual mundane routine. As always the moment she fell upon her bed after the long day, her eyelids went heavy and she fell into a deep sleep.

That’s why I came to find you. I’m trying to find out what the government has been hiding from us all these years and I came accross your name in a document I found. I want to find out why we are orphans and why we’re required to work for the wealthy. You see, I also have to work for one of the rich families in town, but I left.” “So, basically, you’re a conspiracy theorist? Why do you even think there are reasons for all of those things?” She didn’t bother questioning how Chris had found her or why he came because she had heard stories about people who believed that there was a government plot against the citizens. “Conspiracy, yes. Theory, no. I know that there is something corrupt going on, my father spent his life trying to find the truth before he was arrested and executed for treason. Now, come with me and you can find the truth about your family. And of course we can also stop the government corruption.” Alice considered the offer. It seemed ludicrous, but, at the same time, it made some sense. She knew she would never find the truth by spending the rest of her life at the manor. Ultimately, she had nothing to lose and, if successful, everything to gain. “Alright,” she said. “I’ll go with …show more content…
“So, you’re the famous Alice,” Elaine said, unimpressed. Her voice was cold and smooth like ice slipping from her mouth and into the air, chilling the atmosphere. “Yeah. So you infiltrated government offices? Like a double agent? Or a con artist?” Alice asked. In her line of work she knew that people liked when efforts were made to connect with them, but apparently Elaine was nothing like the elites Alice had worked for. “You didn’t tell me she asked so many questions,” Elaine said to Chris, “You know I don’t like questions. I just want to get in, get the info, and ruin the reputation of every official in the country.” Alice thought that Elaine seemed pretty harsh and almost voiced the observation, but thought better of it after seeing the look on Elaine’s face that almost dared her to say something. “Well, I’m turning in for the rest of the night. I’ll see you two bright and early tomorrow morning. I hope you realize what you’ve gotten yourself into, Alice,” Elaine said.
