In what were thought to be the last years of his life Staley became more and more reclusive and was seen less and less and his drug addiction worsened. He cut himself off completely from his friends and family. Leading up to his death he had apparently lost most of his teeth, his skin was pale and sickly, and he was severely emaciated. Staley was 6’1’’ and reportedly weighed 86 pounds when his body was found. Staley’s body was discovered in his Seattle home after his former manager told his mother that no money had been withdrawn from his account for two weeks. When police found the body they thought was Staley, he had been dead for two weeks and had started decomposing, making the body unrecognizable. The body was identified as Layne Staley by comparing dental records, an unreliable method of identification. Just yesterday the real Layne Staley, now 50 years old, came forth to our news site and conducted an interview with former band mates Sean Kinney and Jerry Cantrell. Staley told us that he faked his own death because the fame had become too much for him. He told us “my drug problem was out of control and the spotlight only worsened it.” Cantrell told us “Sean and I and a few of Layne’s close friends and family were the only ones who knew, and we did all we could to make sure no one found out.” Layne told us why he waited to reveal himself for so long, saying “I was still scared that with all the attention and spotlight
