This program has helped me to be prepared and guide me throughout my high school academics to get to where I need to be in order to be on track with my a-g requirements to graduate from high school. PODER is one of the biggest important reasons why I’m going to graduate and attend a university. It has pushed me to be successful in school and has opened many doors for me for example knowing that there are many things we can accomplish no matter what the situation is and to be organized. Because of PODER it has guided me in the right path to attending college and what we should expect when going to college without the PODER Program, I wouldn't be where I am now. It gave me the support and confidence to meet my goal of attending a four year university. The PODER program has taught me many things that will help me be successful in my studies in a university, for example, problem solving, Cornell notes, and time …show more content…
It's almost coming to the an end until I graduate but I feel like I can sum up all that high school has taught me and to advise the underclassmen here are the lessons I've learned, one is to never procrastinate because there is no gain in procrastinating assignments. Procrastination can lead to stress or result in bad grades. Number two, be friends with everyone you can. I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter what a person looks like, what they do in their spare time, or who they sit by at lunch. They have something good to offer you if you look for it with even the tiniest effort. It may be humor, advice, humility, strength, gratitude, assurance, or even a dose of reality. And I could have missed all of these if I kept to myself and only be around those who I'm comfortable with. Number three, pay attention in school and make wise choices you may not be ready to grow up, but it’s a good idea to keep your future in mind. If you want to go to college make sure you take the right classes and ask questions if you don't understand. Do volunteer work, it shows people that you care about others and are willing to work hard. Lastly, be yourself. Your four years will fly by it’s no fun when you pretend to try to be someone you’re not. When you truly know who you are, people will truly love you for that. Don’t be afraid when you feel like your life is falling

For example, with quick writes, I used this in not only AVID but English as well. Also writing has helped me learn to communicate better to others through text. Inquiry-Inquiry has helped me with my research skills. In years before I didn’t do much research so this opened the door to asking questions and achieving the answer and it helped me learn how to come out of my comfort zone. During the year I found that the tutorial sessions helped me improve somewhat in math and I also became better myself at asking questions.…

I was able to engage in challenging classes within the Honors association as well as expand my confidence within WILL, Women in Learning and Leadership. My perspective on each and every concept I learned kept changing and growing and altering. I learned alongside people of varying cultures, and ages, which expanded my perspective on numerous issues. I changed my major at least four or five times, and did not have to worry about wasting thousands of dollars by doing so. I am still accumulating more information and deciphering what it is exactly I want to do and who I want to be.…

This is a non-traditional high school and based on the population and my experience during the fall semester I still think that there is a lot to do here for this particular population (about their age, legal and social status). Everybody seemed very committed to work hard to support these students. It is true that regarding working with them in regular sessions is a challenge for the counselor. I feel it is difficult to work directly with students as probably I could have worked in a traditional school. I am really interested in working with this population and I also feel that if someone wants to learn and understand the immigrant population in other schools in this area and other areas this is a great place to learn.…

High school also intimidated me as I made the transformation from “big man on campus” in eighth grade to a young and vulnerable 9th graders. The thought of having new teachers, described by some upperclassmen as “brutal” was also overwhelming. Overall, I had no clue what to expect. My middle school teachers always warned us, “In high school, you are on your own and there is no cushion. Teachers will not hold your hands and help you through every little thing.”…

Though I am not even half way through my high school career, I feel as if I can still be a help to those who are just beginning. “You won’t realize it, but high school will be the best years of your life,” everyone says, but I beg to differ. I recently visited my local high school and chills ran over my body. You are not a little kid anymore; the teachers and staff actually trust you and give you more responsibilities. Even though there are a bunch of things that I think about high school on a daily basis, there are three things that come to my head more than others: getting lost, more freedom, and failing. To be honest, when I hear the word high school my first thought is “oh my gosh, I’m going to be totally lost.”…

I've faced a good bit of internal challenges that have defined who I am today. From a young age, I have struggled with severe anxiety and, more recently, depression (past 3 years) and disordered eating (past year). The reality of my future has always been a huge question mark followed by intense fear and a vow to never plan what I'm going to do with my life ever again (it never works by the way). However, in my own little world, where I am not afraid, I've dreamed of acting. Television, film, local theatre, anything.…
