Alford.Session1.Journal An experience in my life that will influence my academic work and goals at CCU is a hard lesson in obedience. My disobedience to God and his will for my life resulted in making choices based on self will along with the consequences. I was in captivity to some strongholds that I was bound to most of my adult life. The spiritual brokenness that I experienced was a life without God and direction. There was no relationship with him, no faith, and a life full of fear. I found myself sitting in a jail cell trying to mentally recollect what went wrong and how I ended up there. I began to pray and ask God to please help me. Although I was incarcerated I began a journey of obedience and through that prayer of surrender I felt a sense of freedom. I developed a relationship with Jesus that has impacted every decision I’ve made since. I realized then that I need to be focused on God in all aspects of my life which led to a Christ based university. …show more content…

The importance for me was to learn also about myself to truly become obedient. Through forming that intimate relationship with Christ I became teachable and

The novel, Kindred, exposed me to the un- taught lifestyles of the southern people during slavery. It left me with questions, jaw dropping moments, and surprises, but yet not, of the life styles that were practiced during the 1800s that today we might see in different forms. One event that troubled me the most was reenactment of the slave market. Kevin and Dana were walking away from the Weylin’s home and slave quarters to talk in private when they saw slave children reenacting a slave market. Then Dana said, “Even the games they play are preparing them for their future.”…
