As parents, the words “because I am your parent” are used about an extreme amount to prove a point. And it usually works.. But children are better learning from mistakes versus never making them.

It used to be that children were taught to toughen up, to grow a thicker skin, to take everything with a grain of salt and that it is what is. If someone hurt a someone else’s feelings, they should suck it up and deal with it or fix it themselves. Rarely did parent get involved, unless the issue was serious of course, because as kids we were expected to rough it out ourselves and learn how to healthily disagree. My parents and grandparents were taught this way and so were my sister and I. It was understood that things weren’t always going to go our way and that that was okay, and it wasn’t ok to be rude or make a scene because we didn’t like something, we were expected to deal with it and make it as palatable for ourselves as possible without…

These juveniles are just childish, young, and way too immature to know right from wrong. What is worse is that most of the juveniles are getting tried as adults at such a young age and can lead to ruining their lives. Although these individuals are criminals and should face the consequences they committed, trying these teens as adults can be a cruel punishment.…

The word survival connotes a life versus death issue, but when considering situations of survival a person must remember “We each survive in our own way” (Maas 21). According to Google, the definition of survival is “the state or fact of continuing to live or exist, typically in spite of an accident, ordeal, or difficult circumstances,” which opens up the interpretation to extend beyond living and include emotional, mental or social survival (1). While some people argue that a person in a situation of survival should be held accountable for their actions, it is unethical to not take into consideration the circumstances of an incident. A person seeking simplicity can argue that one person killing another is as simple as black and white, and…

Should parents be held accountable for the actions of their children? Hearing about what is happening in schools all across the country, being a parent they should talk to their children more about the outcome of something bad happening, maybe not as many young teenagers would go partying, do drugs or bully someone to the point of death. Communicating with your child is probably the biggest outcome of how he or she acts. Teaching them to respect the feelings of others and having them vent their frustrations and anger are all within the parent’s realm of authority (Coconi). It is a parent’s responsibility to recognize their child’s behaviors and rectify them before an innocent or weaker child is hurt (Coconi).…
