Alex's Habitat: The Fascination Of Art

Decent Essays
I grew up playing sports. I have done it all from playing volleyball to taking ballet. I am the furthest thing from being an artist. My specialty is stick figures. I have never understood the fascination of art. I cannot look at a drawing or a painting and see a story behind it. To me paint is paint and pencil is pencil. I am hoping to change that.
The article from Art News titled, “Habitat: Alex Dodge,” is a look into Alex’s studio in New York. He uses art in a different way than I am familiar hearing about and seeing. He combines using technology and traditional techniques like stencils and oil paint. Alex mentions that he likes the traditional ways but also has a desire to learn more about the technological side of art.

July 20th, 2016 Recently, I have found myself in conversations with friends who have had tremendous difficulty trying to do what they love. I met Tyler the other day; he asked me if I still work at the same boring job after so many years. I told him I do not plan to change it until the company does not want me anymore. Tyler said that he is still looking for the perfect job, in which he loves what he does and earns enough money.…

Before, Alex’s death he carved into a piece of wood stating “Jack London is King”. The carving was found near the site of McCandless’s dead body. This is a coincidence because Alex ended up dying because of journeying into the wilderness and Jack London has portrayed the wild as a horrifying and harmful place. The autopsy report displayed how Alex’s muscles became withered and how his body lost most of its fat content from being in the wild without any supplies. This epigraph proved the dangers and darkness the wild holds and how Alex’s chances of survival was low from the beginning.…

I was born in Germany, where I was surrounded by rich European art. Most of my artwork represents places, buildings, and artists that I was exposed to while living in Germany. I was introduced to art at an early age by my mother who took me to an art museum where I began taking art lessons at. Throughout the years I developed a heartfelt passion for art and the medieval era. When we left Germany my art was still in a cartoonist style, but when we came over to the US my elementary and high school art teacher helped me develop a more realistic style that shows traces of my heritage.…

Art is a subjective matter. As I learned in AP Art History, what might be ugly to one person is beautiful to another. Art is also an easy skill to pick up. Anyone who is able to write is also able to draw and paint. It is a matter of diligence, motivation and passion for art that differentiates the average Joe from the next Michelangelo.…

A mural is a large piece of artwork painted on a wall, perpetual surface, or celling. The word mural actually comes from the Latin word “murus,” which means wall. Murals date back to about 30,000 years ago and have continued to thrive and evolve in all cultures. There is so much beauty behind every artist’s mural and having their work displayed for the public to see everyday makes each individual piece so much more intriguing. Angie Kordic, journalist for Widewalls online magazine, states that murals hold great significance for mankind due to the fact that they depict life activities, everyday scenery and religious traditions around the time they were formed, giving the world a invaluable look at the diversity of our culture during different…

Book Review 1: Seven Days In The Art World In the mysterious, capricious and status-obsessed art market, six distinct insiders—artists, dealers, curators, critics, collectors and auction-house experts—are keeping dynamic balance with each other and being a relatively excluded group that is fraught with unknown secrets. As a non-fiction book that to some extent, pry into the secrets in art market, Sarah Thornton’s Seven Days in the Art World offers up a tale of what happens at the height of a cultural moment and the exuberance of an over-expand market. Through my reading, there are several aspects I take away from the book, which make it outstanding and also result to some limitations.…

I have dabbled with art ever since I was a toddler. I would draw anywhere I went: school, home, and even at church. It started out as a hobby, but soon, I immersed myself into the world of art by integrating art with medicine. I have always found medical dramas to be particularly intriguing. Developing into this interest, I started writing my own medical journal, where I took notes from a book called Gray’s Anatomy and from the medical dramas I watched.…

After Hurricane Katrina, when my family had to move to Houston, Texas for two years, my artistic journey began. I drew many pictures in my childhood, but this is where I started to take it more seriously. Moving to Texas, the “Lone Star State”, was quite an experience for me. It was sad for us to have to leave New Orleans, after withstanding the hurricane by settling in at the Superdome; it was a life changing experience. On the other hand, as my artistic life was commencing, my passion for sports was also becoming a part of me.…
