“WHAT THE HECK?” he yelled as a dark blue dart hit the small of his back.
Alex ran away in hysterics. She laughed as Michael tried to chase her around the park. He finally caught up to her and pushed her into the sand.
“WHAT’D YOU DO THAT FOR?” shrieked Alex as she shook her head to get strands out of her long black hair. Her face was as red as a tomato.
“THAT’S FOR SHOOTING ME!” Michael hollered with no thought of the volume of his incredibly loud voice.

“YOU’RE IT!” They chased each other across the park until the familiar tune of the ice cream truck entered their ears.
“ICE CREAM!” they yelled as they rushed to their parents for money.
By next week Alex had long forgotten about the death of Michael’s cat, but the memory lay fresh in Michael’s young and impressionable mind. He feared that someone else he cared about might die too. Death plagued his dreams and turned them into nightmares. For the first time in his life, Michael didn’t mind holding his mom’s hand when crossing the street.
It was about a month later and Michael and Alex were arguing over who got to ride the swing. There were two, but some of the older kids had twisted the other one so badly that it was unusable and untying it would require a much longer attention span than what Alex and Michael had. She screamed and hit the ground, her legs twisted at an angle that wasn’t right.
Michael heard her screaming and, forgetting about their silent war, he rushed over. “Alex! Alex, are you okay?” he asked as he saw her crumpled on the floor crying. “MOOOOOOOOOM!” he yelled as he rushed over to his parents. Michael remembered his cat dying and he was instantly terrified of what might’ve happened to Alex. “Alex was cl-climbing a tree, and then she f-f-fell, and now she’s crying.” he stammered.
“I told you guys to not climb too high!” said Alex’s mom as she went over to Alex. She picked Alex up and took her to the car to drive her to the hospital.
A few days Alex came over to the park in a wagon her mom was pulling. She had a cast around her leg. Michael walked
