As a kid, Alexander’s mother and father hired a teacher for Alexander. Alexander was great due to of his concern for others. For example, document C states during the battle of Tyre if you surrendered to him or sought sanctuary at the temple he would not kill you. This shows Alexander cared about others since he would not kill innocent people. Exceptional leaders, as well as great people would not kill innocent people. Another reason Alexander was great is found in document D. Document D states they were on a long tough journey through the desert and needed water. They found a little bit of water, but there was not enough so he poured it out because his attitude was if there is not enough water for everyone then nobody could have it. Being the first person to conquer the Egyptian, Greek, and Persian empires in just over a decade was no walk in the park, and neither was integrating a culture into all of those empires nor attempting to unite them all. Alexander of Macedon was this man: he conquered the greatest empires, spread the Greek influence, and lead in a unique way with his inspiring character that he is famous for. Although he was not the ideal leader such as Plato’s idea of a philosopher-king, he was an ethical man who wanted his people content. His well-known title, “Alexander the Great,” was very appropriate for him: his fine character and social goals, his unique political leadership and strategic conquering, and his economic…

Alexander the Great is worthy of his title. One direct quote is that, “The prince took charge of the companion cavalry at the age of 18, and aided his father in defeating the Athenian and Theban armes at Chaeronea.” This is important because this is when he started to become a great leader, also it shows that he is also very brave and is showed that he is not afraid of fighting at a young age; so people would not fight forever but he fought at the age of 18 Another direct quote is that, “I am not afraid of an army of lions led by sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion.” This shows that Alexander the Great is great because he is afraid of an army that is lead by a good leader, but not afraid of a army of good soldiers and a…

I must admit that you are absolutely correct when you stated that Darius army was larger which made it easier for Alexander’s army to attack and lead them to…

“Your greatness is measured by your kindness,” - William J. H. Boetcker. Greatness is not something that can be measured, it is only an abstract term. It cannot even be determined by the number of people who follow you, Hitler had over 4 million and he was far from great, while some genuinely great people achieve it all on their own. However in its abstractness, greatness is only a mix of discipline, integrity, and care for others. But there is one person, who has been called “great” since ancient times. Yet Alexander was not great. He wanted people to think that he was generous, so he made a show of giving up a small part of what he had, he was shifty and second-handed to the people who were less powerful than he, and he promoted cruelty to animals, even the species of his best friend.…

I believe that Alexander the Great meant he would rather have an army of lions lead by sheep because although a lion is ferocious by nature, if it is following a sheep which is not ferocious by nature the sheep will not command the lions to act like ferocious beasts. However, a lion would order a sheep to battle and the sheep would obey. I agree with what Alexander the great said because if a lion charged into battle the sheep would follow his orders and…
