Alexander The Great: How The Spread Of Civilization

One of the most common ways people change is through their culture. Culture can be defined as the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. As civilizations develop, they tend to share these ideas and routines with other civilizations. This happens for many different reasons, but the most relevant ways are conquering, trade, and slavery.
First, one of the main ways of culture spread is conquering. Many places and people were conquered throughout history. When a leader was to conquer another civilization, they would force the population of that society to practice their culture. Because of this, many societies adapted to being overthrown, and began to mimic the practices of the leading culture. Unlike some, Alexander the Great would conquer civilizations without forcing his society's beliefs onto those he overthrew. By doing so, he created a bond between himself and those he conquered, which resulted in the conquered society adopting Alexander's culture. When people trade, they normally trade food, clothing, weapons, and supplies. Just like in the Columbian Exchange, people will trade many things. Some examples of traded foods are wheat, apples, sugar, peaches, corn, peppers, chocolate, potatoes, tomatoes and many more.
