Alexander The Great: A Hero Or Hero?

Decent Essays
There are villains in this world that do many horrid things, but there are also heroes. Alexander the Great is one of those heroes that lived many years ago. He was a hero because after every battle he visited his wounded soldiers to see how they were doing. In Section 3 of Chapter 5, it says, “ He visited all of his wounded men after each battle.” This shows that he cares about his soldiers and how they’re doing when they’re hurt. Another reason that he is a hero is because he stood by his soldiers no matter what happened. On Page 181, it says, “ For I have been wounded with the sword in close fight, I have been shot with arrows, and I have been struck with missiles projected from engines of war; and though oftentimes I have been hit stones

This shows Alexander cared about others since he would not kill innocent people. Exceptional leaders, as well as great people would not kill innocent people. Another reason Alexander was great is found in document D. Document D states they were on a long tough journey through the desert and needed water. They found a little bit of water, but there was not enough so he poured it out because his attitude was if there is not enough water for everyone then nobody could have it. This evidence matters for the reason that it shows he cared about his soldiers and wanted to be fair and not selfish.…

If you don’t know what the plot for this story is, then I advise that before you read this, you should find these legends then come back and actually know what I am talking about. So one thing he did in this story that was in a way “great”. When his men brought him the helmet of water he poured it out on the sand in front of his whole troop, the thing about this that was great was that the water wasn’t enough for his whole troop. So in a way it was a generous thing to do for his whole troop because of there not being a sufficient quantity of water for his whole troop to have at least one sip. My second piece of evidence is from the Legend of the headband where Alexander…

Consenting to bring his troops home, they suffered during a nearly fatal crossing of the Gedrosian Desert before arriving back in Persia. After traveling the world and becoming one of, if not the, greatest leaders in history, Alexander was undone by an unmixed glass of wine. Ill with fever and potentially suffering from typhoid, he died just a short time before his 33rd birthday. Today, he remains one of history's most influential…

Alexander the Great was worthy for his title. In the text it states,” The prince took charge in companion cavalry at age 18… Alexander became king of Macedonia at the age of 20.” This quote proves my opinion because he was in charge of the cavalry at a very young age, and he was responsible for the cavalry. Another piece of evidence to support my claim is,” Alexander’s army consisted of 40,000 soldiers… by a lion.” This quote proves my claim because he had lots of people in his own army that would protect Alexander’s citizens.…

Alexander the Great has been revered as military genius, tactician, and godlike conqueror. Many of the accounts taken down of his life make him out to be the hero of Western culture and practice. The peoples he conquered and the territories he took over worshipped him as a god and even placed him alongside the likes of Zeus and Ra. The main source used to gain knowledge of Alexander’s life stems from historians and philosophers, such as Quintus Curtius, Plutarch, and Arrian. These writers recorded the events that took place in his life as though they shared close ties to Alexander.…

The most common belief amongst Alexander’s critics is that he was a cruel and inattentive ruler. However, historians who believe this misconception fail to acknowledge the evidence that expresses Alexander’s redeeming qualities such as good leadership and loyalty to soldiers and friends. These historians also do not realize that a crucial aspect to a great leader is to be successful, which Alexander has more than demonstrated with his triumphs and guidance over territories under his control. Alexander III is entitled to be a distinguished historical figure and has rightfully earned the dignified title “Alexander the Great” through his remarkable leadership, the substantial impact that he had over his conquered territories, and his personal consideration for others, despite the fallacy that he was…
