Alexander Hamilton: The Founding Father

Decent Essays
Intelligence, bravery, and leadership; sounds like every other founding father, and that’s true. George Washington used these traits in war, Thomas Jefferson used these attributes in documents, Benjamin Franklin used these features through inventions, and John Adams used these traits for shaping America, but Alexander Hamilton used these characteristics for war, documents, inventions, and shaping America. He was captain of the company of artillery in war. He was also the main author of The Federalist Papers. He invented America’s first financial system. He was also United States first Secretary of the Treasury. I believe Alexander Hamilton is worthy enough to be called The Founding Father.

Alexander Hamilton was a huge supporter of the Constitution.

I believe that James Madison was the Founding Father that made the most significant impact in shaping our government today. His efforts and contributions alone greatly benefited the entire nation. He did this through writing a majority of the Constitution, even having the moniker “Father of the United States Constitution,” drafting the bill of rights, and proposing the Virginia Plan, which is now used as a basis for today’s government. At first when America gained its independence, it did not use the Constitution as the governing document.…

Founding Brother: The Revolutionary Generation by Joseph J. Ellis shows the men who started and continued a new nation in a light not shown very often. Some of the men written about and included are George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. Due to many points made throughout Ellis’ argument, the assessment of the men of the Revolutionary period and the political trials they faced creates a better and helpful vision of how these men came to create and place the governmental and political scenes today. George Washington had been the perfect and obvious choice as the first President of the United States because of his pivotal role as one of the Founding Fathers and because of his little desire to have the power of the presidency. However, Founding Brothers opens the door to look at him in not just a celebratory light, but one of truth.…

All too common today is the phrase “what would our founding fathers think,” usually used in reference to the technology-obsessed millennials or the ever-declining moral state of the nation. The fact of the matter is, what the founding fathers think has absolutely no influence or weight today, as they are all dead. If the founding fathers were presumably brought back, for some ungodly reason, they would probably be too transfixed with iPhones to do anything relevant or useful. The founding fathers’ opinions on today’s state of affairs is irrelevant, but they do have lasting influence, especially Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton was one of the most influential founding fathers, who created many hallmarks of America today, despite having lived over two hundred twenty years ago.…

His elevated character slowly started to climb when he became a big part in the Revolutionary War as Washington's advisor, becoming recognized from other people as a strong and virtuous man, finally gaining wealth when he married Elizabeth Schuyler. Soon after the war had ended, Hamilton had come to realize, “Congress’ weaknesses, including jealousy and resentment between states, believing that America’s first informal constitution separated them rather than unified the nation” (2). Hamilton began to study law and practice it too, becoming a lawyer and trying to achieve political goals such as fixing the Articles of Confederation and turning them into The Constitution, by passing the Federalist papers by writing 51 essays out of 85 of them. He succeeded when New York agreed to ratify and soon became Secretary of Treasury when washington became…

On the evening of Sunday, September 18, AHI Charter fellow and beloved Hamilton College History professor, Douglas Ambrose, spoke on “Alexander Hamilton and the Perils of Posterity”. With incredible eloquence, wit and energy he delivered a generous assessment of the honorable luminosity that Alexander Hamilton demonstrated in his public life. It inspired me to write further on Hamilton’s legacy. For Alexander Hamilton, to be seen as trustworthy in the eye of the common people was paramount. For thinkers like him, they gave no thought to this idea of Heaven or a beatific vision at the end of their lives where they would meet their Maker.…
